New guidelines for COVID-19 were released Friday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
People who have COVID will no longer need to quarantine if they’ve been fever-free without medication for at least 24 hours or if symptoms improved for 24 hours, according to the CDC.
The new recommendations were updated to align with those of other respiratory infections, including influenza and RSV.
From Feb. 9 – 22 of this year, there were 723 emergency department visits for COVID-19-like illness in Mecklenburg County. Of those visits, 102, or 14.1% resulted in hospital admission, according to Mecklenburg County.
Other recommendations by the CDC include:
- Staying up to date with vaccination including the flu, COVID-19, and RSV if eligible.
- Practicing good hygiene by covering coughs and sneezes, washing hands often, and cleaning frequently touched surfaces.
- Taking steps for cleaner air, such as bringing in more fresh outside air, purifying indoor air, or gathering outdoors.
