Richard Nevins, a prominent attorney, accountant, church member, and beloved family man, passed away on March 17, 2024. He was raised in Cleveland, Ohio, and then pursued a BA degree in Journalism from Northwestern University. For three years he volunteered in the U.S. Peace Corps serving in Ngoral Guidal, Mauritania, and in Notse, Togo, West Africa. From that experience he became fluent in French, later pursuing a certificate from the Université Paris-Sorbonne. Always seeking more knowledge he decided to study law and earned his JD from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, California in 1988. He was admitted to practice law in the State of California and before the U.S. Tax Court.
After marrying Sharon, his wife of more than 28 years, he settled in Riverside, California where he built a thriving law practice. Located in the downtown area, he provided legal services in the areas of taxation, trusts & probates, and business law. As a journalist, he wrote several articles for the Black Voice News combating misinformation when it came to estate planning and laws pertaining to small business formation. In July 2011 he was acknowledged as a Black Voice News Community Builder for his service to non-profits in the region.
He also served as a trustee for New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in San Bernardino.
Richard is survived by his wife, Sharon; his mother, Edith; and his brothers, Albert, Fredrick, Gerald, and William; and his sister, Andrene Campbell-Peters.A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church located at 1575 W. 17th Street San Bernardino, CA 92411.
