In a heartwarming celebration of perseverance and community support, Mae Bailey, a 79-year-old African American mother of five from Little Rock, Arkansas, has realized her lifelong dream of owning her own home.

Amidst cheers and applause, Habitat for Humanity in Central Arkansas presented Bailey with the keys to her new home, marking a significant milestone for both her and the organization. Bailey’s new home, a testament to dedication and collaboration, represents the fifth completed project by Habitat for Humanity in the region within just half a year.

79-Year-Old

Expressing her overwhelming gratitude, Bailey extended heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to making her dream a reality. “I want to thank all of Habitat,” Bailey remarked in an interview with KATV. “The employees, workers, everybody that know Habitat. I want to thank God for you all, you all are a blessing to Little Rock Arkansas.”

With her new home now a reality, Bailey eagerly anticipates hosting a family reunion this July, eager to welcome loved ones into her new abode and create cherished memories together.

Bailey’s journey to homeownership was made possible through the collaborative efforts of Habitat for Humanity and the city of North Little Rock’s neighborhood stabilization program. Dedicated volunteers, fueled by a shared commitment to community empowerment, poured their hearts and hands into the construction of Bailey’s home, embodying the spirit of unity and compassion.

Kelly Fleming, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Central Arkansas, reflected on the significance of the occasion, stating, “We believe that we bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope. I think today was a perfect example of that.”

As Bailey settles into her new home, her story serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration, reminding us of the transformative power of community and the enduring importance of realizing one’s dreams, regardless of age or circumstance.
