What does Black Mental Wellness mean to you?
To me, Black Mental Wellness means acknowledging and addressing the historical and systemic factors that have contributed to disparities in mental health outcomes among us. Black mental wellness is very important to me for black youth. Now that we live in a time where we have so much access to find and seek healthy black mental wellness I hope that my people take advantage of today’s technology and resources to heal each other and have the peace, freedom and happiness that our ancestors prayed for.
How do you promote change and well-being in the Black community?
I promote change and well-being in the Black community by raising awareness about mental health issues to youth and parents by providing culturally relevant education about mental health conditions, symptoms, and available resources. I have created supportive networks and safe spaces for black youth to share their experiences, seek guidance, and receive support from peers who understand their cultural background and challenges. The power of storytelling is empowering and healing to us.
What are some upcoming events you are leading, that promote mental health and wellness, that you would like for our Black Mental Wellness audience to know about?
Some upcoming events we have are I Luv Me! Mental Wellness Tour. Our next stops are Sacramento and Los Angeles. To be involved and stay connected with us check out our website and follow us on Instagram. @iluvmemovement www.celebratingteensuccess.org
