Juneteenth celebrations are happening all across North Carolina this month. Dozens of NC Department of Natural and Cultural Resources sites will feature various events, from tours and readings to celebrations and live performances.
Below you’ll find 24 events happening in 12 different areas of NC. From Asheville to Wilmington, each provides ways to learn about and celebrate the holiday.
Asheville
Leah & the Rabbit: A Juneteenth Play at the Vance Birthplace | June 15
What: Head to the Vance Birthplace Historic Site to see a three-act play about resiliency, reclaiming narratives, and tour a historic site.

Juneteenth Food & Facts: | June 18
What: Get a taste of traditional Juneteenth foods and learn more about the holiday and African-American food history with two documentaries: “America: Black Freedom.”

“From Slavery to Juneteenth Jubilee” Distinguished Speaker Presentation and Reception with Mary D. Williams | June 19
What: Presented by Black Wallstreet Asheville, at this event you can hear from vocalist Mary D. Williams and enjoy a reception afterward.

Downtown After 5: Juneteenth | June 21
What: Celebrate Juneteenth with live music from “the soulful” Sierra Green & the Giants plus food, vendors and more.

4th Annual Juneteenth By The Sea Tickets | June 15
