The first Pride was a riot against police brutality and racialized, structural violence. The Stonewall Uprising was led by Black and Brown Transgender women such as Marsha P Johnson and Sylvia Rivera. How are we observing Pride in 2024?
If a therapist claims to be “LGBTQIA+ affirming”, but is silent or “neutral” towards ongoing genocides escalating globally, what does that really mean?
All Oppression is Connected
Dear ones, can we see the connections between what’s being done to Congo, Sudan, watermelon, and the violent tactics oppressing Queer, Trans, Nonbinary siblings (always vastly, disproportionately impacting Two-Spirit, Indigenous, Black, and Brown communities?)
Imprisonment, stolen relatives/MMIW (missing, murdered Indigenous women), forced displacement/unhousing, exploitation/enslavement, non-consensual surgeries/bodily harm, the parallels go on and on.
DEHUMANIZATION is at the core – and for whose gain?
Collective liberation requires collective accountability
Those of us that benefit from/contribute to these systems of oppression (e.g. pays taxes, uses a laptop, drives an electric car), Pride CANNOT be a month-long party.
How are we taking ACTION, joining in resistance, revolting, divesting, boycotting, calling silent/complicit LGBTQ+ orgs into accountability?
