Skin care class is in session!

It feels like every six months, there’s a new, buzzy ingredient in skincare that everyone is clamoring for. We’ve been through our hyaluronic acid era, our vitamin C era, our niacinamide era and our BHA/AHA era — at this point, you can probably even list off the benefits of each of those ingredients in your sleep 😅

These days, the skincare ingredient du jour seems to be peptides, and whenever there’s a new viral cream or serum on the market, you’re sure to see the word “peptide” listed somewhere in the name as a major benefit to the product. So… what actually IS a peptide? Is it just another silly marketing word to make you buy more things, or is it actually an ingredient you need be paying more attention to and adding to your skincare routine? Let’s find out!

what are peptides?

Peptides are made of amino acids — and when combined in certain formations, the peptides create proteins.  These proteins, like keratin, collagen and elastin, form foundation of your skin, and the more of them you have… the better condition your skin is in. As get older, the loss of these proteins is what causes signs of aging, so anything you can do to replenish peptides in your skin is a good thing!

what are the benefits of peptides?

The main benefit of peptides in skin care is that they can increase collagen production and elasticity in the skin, while also treating signs of aging: wrinkles, loss of firmness, dullness. Some peptides also have UV protection properties, and help your skin to build a stronger barrier for protection against other toxins like pollution and bacteria.

In other words, if you’ve been wondering if you need peptides in your skincare, the answer is a loud, resounding YES!!! Now, let’s check out some products that will start your skin on its peptide journey.
